The Celebrating Jangams:
Our community name 'Jangam' is derived from the movable emblem (linga) of Lord Shiva. We are said to be Veerashaiva Brahmins. We are believed to have migrated from Karnataka to propagate the Shaivite cult and to act as priests to those who follow the Shaivaite cult. We are pure vegetarians and wear a lingam in a small casket made of silver, copper or brass around the neck. We often carry a lucky charm in the form of a 'blessed' piece of cloth.
